A few days ago, my ‘check engine’ light came on after I got some gas. I adjusted the gas cover, and after turning off/starting car, the light went out. A day or so later, the light came on again, but this time with the oil symbol as well. However, the ‘check engine’ lights went off again after I turned the car off/on. Even though, the ‘check engine’ lights were off, I called to make an appointment and explained what happened. I was advised to check the oil, which I did about an hour prior to my appointment. There was barely any oil on the stick. I called Subaru to make sure I should still drive, the person I spoke to suggested I add oil since I was driving from Centerville. I did as advised, and drove to Subaru. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS OFF for my entire drive. When I arrived at Subaru, I explained the above to the very nice gentleman who received the vehicle. I went in spoke to presumably Brandon. He said they would need to run a diagnostic test. I also inquired if it would be possible to get the trade in value of my car, and he said of course. I waited to get the results. Now this is where it gets confusing. When Brandon came to speak to me, he told me there was a sensor issue and that I had to bring the car in when the ‘check engine’ light was on so they could run the codes (I am unsure of the exact language he used, but basically the ‘check engine’ light had to be on, in order for a complete diagnostic to be performed). He added he might need to keep the vehicle a day or two b/c they would have to drop the transmission and it would be at least an eight-hour job ($139 p/hr), then when I questioned further, he said it could be something simple like a bad sensor that would be only a couple of hours, but he wouldn’t know until they worked on the car. Brandon then also said something to the effect that he cleared the check engine light. He suggested an oil change to which I agreed. As I sat, I thought about what he said, when it was time for me to check out, I asked him what he meant when he said “he cleared the check engine light”. He responded that the check engine light went out when he drove my car. I said the engine light was never on. He insisted that it was, and I reiterated that it was not on when I drove the car to Subaru. He then said, well it must have come on during the time the car was in the shop and that it went out again. Well after leaving the shop, I thought about what he said and questioned to myself, if the check engine light was on (as he said) when he was driving the car, why didn’t he check the ‘check engine’ codes then? Perhaps this is all a case of miscommunication; but it just gave me the feeling like he was trying to upcharge me on a service, or make my car seem less valuable since I asked for the trade in value (which I never received). As a woman it is hard to find trustworthy mechanics since many seem to see dollar signs when we walk in. However, I NEVER had this feeling when dealing with Bryan or Wayne. Even though having my vehicle serviced by the dealer is more costly, I always felt both Bryan and Wayne treated me fairly and with integrity; and I was willing to drive the greater distance and pay the higher price for great service. Unfortunately, this most recent visit created some doubt, that I hope can be attributed to a big misunderstanding; however, I thought my experience should be shared. Sincerely a long-time Subaru Owner.

Takata airbag and wiper motor housing recall service were completed relatively quickly. I appreciated the loaner vehicle during the process. I will really appreciate not getting anymore snail mails/emails from Subaru about that airbag. I also appreciate the heads-up from Rikki regarding the bad passenger side rear hub bearing.

It was a normal interaction nothing bad with it, but nothing extraordinary. He's been helpful through the process of advicing me of the neccesary repairs and parts. The problems I had was with the cost of the repairs and that the cost was changed after I was given a quote and placed an order.
