I brought my vehicle in for an issue that was causing a battery draw over a few weeks and I had to replace a total of three 12 V batteries. The technician followed the Toyota procedure to determine parasitic draw and it was below the limits. I had information from the company I purchased the van that a particular sensor related to the battery cable was causing this problem and I asked that it be changed. I was told that this would not be covered under warranty, because there was no damage shown, even though I know this has been the problem on two other Sienna’s like mine. I have not had the battery problem since the sensor was replaced. Also three different times the technician pointed out what I think are insulting and stupid things that could’ve been causing the battery draw when he should’ve been spending time finding the real problem. My vehicle is an adapted van for wheelchair accessibility, when it was picked up by a friend, she did not notice, but the shifter head which had been modified as part of the conversion was very loose and could not be shut off when she arrived at my home. I called the service person at the dealer and told her what had happened and initially she was helpful. After the discussion I had to drive back to, the service department after 5 o’clock on a Friday. The mechanic met me and discovered that the shifter head was loose and was causing a problem with the shifter locking in park. The mechanic mentioned a note he had written about this happening, which he should’ve known was not a normal operation and should have done more to correct this problem. The shifter was not loose when it was dropped off at the service department. Also, I had made a note which was posted above the shifter, explaining how to use it just so some sort of problem like this would not happen. During this conversation with the mechanic, he mentioned that the shifter not locking in place could cause a battery draw, which was a pretty ridiculous comment as the van would not shut off and that situation and it was clearly obvious that it would not shut off so it would never have been left in that configuration to draw the battery down. Again, this is probably the stupidest thing anyone has ever said to me regarding a vehicle. As you can imagine because this van is accessible I need to have it to get around. When people are careless with the equipment it makes my life extremely difficult. I will have to deal with Toyota again in the future and I would appreciate it if everyone involved and handling the van was more careful.
