I’ve been following Pat over the years at every Toyota Dealership, including Hank, during Pat’s short absence from Toyota, where he/they were employed.
When one has such unconditional trust in someone, the Toyota Dealership receives an unconditional “seal of approval” from EVERYONE who knows him/them.
Pat, and Hank, are two of the most ethical individuals who serve Toyota, and their customers, with honesty, professionalism, courtesy, and their personal attributes of friendliness, which enables such trust, in ALL of their recommendations for keeping 100% of the Toyota cars I’ve owned spanning over two-decade in Pat’s care.
What more can I say. I speak with honesty and admiration, because they are the finest people I know.
They are assets to Bob Smith Toyota (La Canada)..
I am grateful that Toyota knows and employs the BEST. I apologize, for I speak in long sentences, but it’s an honor to know such fine individual, and to be a grateful customer of Bob Smith Toyota.
Thank you.
Best regards,
Michael M

Hank helped me out two days in a row. The first day was for my Corolla, which went smoothly. The second day was for my Sienna. He called me to let me know that it needed some repairs on the brakes. I asked him if there were any discounts floating around that he could possibly apply to my final invoice. He said he could apply a 10% discount, which I appreciated. Upon arrival to pick up my van, I looked over the invoice to see if the discount was applied. I didn’t see it. Instead, a $70 usage of my points that I’ve accumulated over time was applied. The cashier called in Hank to clarify. He came in and told me that he can apply a 10% discount (he would just make it an even $70 discount) or I could use the $70 worth of member points, but he said he couldn’t do both. I said that makes no sense. The usage of points, which I’ve accumulated by loyally coming in for service for my cars, isn’t a “discount.” I can redeem those points at any time. I said it was misleading to tell me over the phone that I would get a discount when in fact, you’re just applying my own points. So he said he can’t do both, so I reluctantly said to just give me the $70 “discount,” and I’ll save the points for another time. He went back to his desk, rewrote the invoice, and came back to the cashiers office. Upon arrival, he said he applied the $70. He also made it a point to remind me that he split the cost of the brake rotors(?) with me to let me know, supposedly, how much of a favor he was doing me. He then told the cashier to just also include the $70 redemption of points. On a side note, this just shows that he COULD give a discount and use the points contrary to what he said before. As I left to give my ticket to the porter, I said “Thanks Hank” as I left. As I waited for them to bring my van around, Hank approached me and seemed to want to make it a point that the $70 he took off comes out of his paycheck. I’m not sure what his intention was, maybe to guilt trip me? Either way, I felt that it was unnecessary.
Yes, money is tight and I’m trying to save as much money as possible. But I know I have to pay for work that needs to be done. I think the main mistake here might be semantics. When Hank tells me he’ll apply a “discount,” that’s what I expect. The redemption of points is not a discount; it’s usage of rewards that I’ve earned for being a loyal customer. If he had told me up front that I have points that would help lower my bill, I would have been fine with that. It was just the setup, which was misleading to me, and then the fact that he went out of his way because he just had to let me know that it comes out of his paycheck. Seems quite petty.
