First of all… I came in for preventive maintenance for my 2003 Toyota 4Runner I scheduled to have my timing belt replaced and have tires rotated, and along with that I added to have the valve cover gaskets replaced. So the mechanic started with the valve covers and discovered that the bolts were snapping off instead of coming out unharmed. So the cautionary measure to continue was to drill out the broken bolts replaced with helix coils which required many man hours to repair. In that process, exceeding my expectations of cost was not plausible in my budget for the complete projected scheduled maintenance to be performed. The conclusion of that portion of repairing the valve cover bolts turned out to become half of the cost of replacing the whole motor with a salvaged engine that I would have made the option to go forward with that idea instead of spending over $1300 for a pair of valve cover gaskets. Now-having said that, I still have no new timing belt and I have no money in my budget to continue. Granted, it is no fault of your service department, just an unfortunate unforeseen set of circumstances. So now I have a vehicle I cannot rely on for out of town use for the sake of not having a new timing belt installed, I will have to look into purchasing a vehicle to replace this one. I would like to talk to one of your used car salesman and see what we can work out.
