I'm always reluctant using a dealership to work on my vehicle, usually due to the cost. I found out it was no different this time....I originally made an appointment with north county ford but when I dropped off my truck at my scheduled appointment time they told me they were slammed and wouldn't be able to even touch my car till the following day... I explained that wasn't going to work for me and I left. So that brought me to Ken Grody.
I brought my truck in for its 930 appointment and was called back by Mike a couple hours later. I left the service department some description on what my truck was doing the sounds it was making and the trouble shooting that I had narrowed down. Secondly, I needed my 4x4 switched looked at. It was making noises and wasn't shifting into 4x4 easy and eventually not at all.
I was quoted $300 for a diagnostic test after they had already looked at it,
to fix the problem which was replacing the transfer valve motor was going to be $320 for the part and another $250 in labor. This fix was going to cost me close to $900 and that wasn't going to fix the lugging sound that I was hearing that I really wanted to address. Your service folks told me we need to fix this part to rule out the problem, on top
Of that he told me they needed to get the part in stock and it wouldn't be ready for pick up Till probably Monday.
After doing some research of my own, I found the part through ford in stock. After making a call to Mike I decided to pick up my truck and install it myself. It took me not even 30 min to install the part. Service department discounted my diagnostic test too !
$150. In total it cost me roughly $375 to fix the transfer valve motor. And I wasn't out of my truck for 3 days. It's crazy to me the mark up that ford does on parts and service. Super disappointed

Michael explained navigation system. Prompts for verbal commands apply only to system, not driver. Also 12 v receptical is very low amp and probably won't power a 12v cooler.
